An unexpected visitor.

Well, I got quite the shock a day or two ago. I was sitting at home, minding my own buisnes and doing so looking quite sloppy in my pajamas when there was a knock at the door. I looked from the side window and to my surpise saw an officer of the Navy! So, I freaked out and ran into my room trying to change into clothes that would be more presentable, I wasn't about to meet a military man at my door in plaid pants and a faded M*A*S*H tee.

He told me that he got mey lead, and that he was here to talk to me about joining the military. I had some interest in the Navy a long while back when I was a freshmen, but they weren't interested since I was so young. Now that I'm about to turn 17 and could legally join with a parent's signature - they are interested!!

I've no desire to join today because I've actually discovered what I want to do. Journalism! But how could I have said, "oh. no thanks, sorry" and slammed the door in his face?

So I let him in, he handed me a neat folder with all sorts of brochures about how the Navy was the right path for me. He talked, he was charming (aren't all recruiters?) While in the back of my head I couldn't stop thinking, "What gives the guy the right to come barge in during the middle of the day without calling before hand? Especially when I'm only 16...."

He then had the nifty idea that we get in the car and go down to his office to talk about my future with the Navy. He was kind, obliging and seemed to have only my best interests at hand. He even compared my possible enlistment to a movie with Bill Murrie in it "What About Bob?" I felt so comforted.

Luckily my Aunt called (I live with her) and she sounded angry that I had even agreed to let him over. So I used her as a scapegoat and told him he had to leave. He smiled and agreed and told me he would call so he, my Aunt and myself could have a lovely chat about my enlistment.

The military has got to be pretty desperate to do at home follow ups of underage girls. :P

But I'm going to go through the process a bit and see what it's like. Maybe I could get a good story out of it!

My very first TIG blog.

This is exciting. For the first time I've found a place where people who have the same interests in writing and making a difference in the WORLD. (Note the term World, many of my friends would have me believe that the real world consists of America. I guess you just fall off of the face of the planet when you leave. ;) ) I can't wait to start talking to people who have lived such different lives from me. I can't waiting to start writing for this place.

This is the first place that I will have my work out in the public for other people to actually see and read. I can only hope all goes well.
